BEST A Portfolio of Projects 08/09
Burton on the Wolds Primary School
![]() Brief: To create a large owl for the new school hall. He would provide a friendly face in the hall and become something of a school mascot!
In addition, a specially selected team of year 6 helped to create the owl and plan for how we could involve the rest of the school. In pairs, they created clay prototypes and went into classrooms, with my support, to run lessons where everyone made an owl to take home!
Cossington C E Primary School
![]() Brief: To work with the years 5 and 6 on a series of ‘Creative Afternoons’. We focussed on 3D design, sculpture and animation because these were things that the children hadn’t done a lot of before.
St Bartholomew’s Primary school, Quorn
![]() Brief: To enhance the school’s Eco status with a recycled installation created by key stage 1. Three projects ensured plenty of busy parents collecting bottle tops and carrier bags and busy hands constructing the art for the outside of the school.
Highgate County Primary School, Sileby
![]() Brief: To create a Highgate tree, based on the school logo, to be erected in the school grounds and for every pupil in the school to make their own, individual leaf from clay, to be fired and glazed and aged to the tree.
Christ Church and St Peter’s Church of England Primary School, Mountsorrel
Brief: To work with every pupil to produce a wall of tiles to reflect the village of Mountsorrel. Each group took different themes, including landmarks, nature, people and homes.
Wymeswold C of E Primary School
![]() Brief: As part of the Healthy School curriculum we wanted to link the school with the local farming community. Young Farmers and Mill’s Farm contributed information and grain and class 3 (years 3 and 4) created an exhibition of images, salt dough and quotations reflecting their feelings about local farms and farmers.
Hall Orchard Primary School,
![]() Barrow-upon-Soar
Brief: To work with year 5 to create a series of permanent resources on the subject of Creation to fit in with the RE curriculum and be used in the Godly play. A year 5 steering group helped to plan the project, some of which was whole class work and some of which was carried out by the group.
Seagrave Village Primary School
![]() Brief: To link with the school’s bid for International status, a group of talented children from years 4 and 6 worked with me to plan a series of figures from around the world for the picnic area of the school. Each participant drew themselves, as if they were from another culture. We created these figures with wood, paint and varnish.
St Leonard’s C of E Primary school, Swithland
Brief: To come in for Food Week and work with each class during the afternoons. We worked in salt dough and dried food, such as grain and split peas. Every pupil created a collage and a salt dough piece of art for displays.
St Paul’s CE Primary School, Woodhouse Eaves
![]() Brief: To work with each class on an Eco theme to link in with the school’s Art Week, including a visit to the woods to collect materials and differentiated tasks for each year group
Humphrey Perkins High School,
![]() Barrow upon Soar
Brief: To create a recycled metal sculpture for the school’s new Eco Garden, based on the curriculum topic of faces, portraits and gargoyles, working with two specially selected groups of years 7 and 8.
Ideas for the future
With a view to sustainability, greater integration into the curriculum, extended service provision and staff training opportunities, 2009/10 should be an even better year for your school to benefit from your community arts development worker!
