Surestart Children's Centre |
|
A brand new Children’s Centre was opened in November 2008 at Christ Church & St. Peter’s Primary School in Mountsorrel. This centre is one of a number of centres opening across the county over the next few years.
Children’s centres are places where children under five years old and their families can receive information and help. The centre at Mountsorrel will be the place to go in the local area for baby clinics, meetings with Health visitors and much more.
It will also be the place for new mums to get together to share their experiences and to get the help they need from friendly and helpful staff. At the time of publication Stay and Play, New Baby clinics, Mini Movers and a new parents’ group all take place at the centre. There is also a session for Teenage mums as well as a Citizens’ Advice Bureau. Other activities will be arranged in the future to meet the needs of parents and young families. These might include:
- Support for parents - including advice on parenting,
- Information about local childcare options
- Access to specialist services for families.
- Child and family health services - ranging from health screening, health visitor services to breast-feeding support.
- Helping parents into work - with links to the local Jobcentre Plus and training
